Ogontz Avenue becomes “Ribs Lane” for the day. It was an exciting time in West Oak Lane when OARC brought Tom Monaghan's 16th Annual Rib Cook-Off Competition to the Ogontz Plaza, 7100 Ogontz Avenue on Saturday, September 22, 2007. This was a unique event for the area and a great opportunity for OARC to reconnect with the community since its 4th Annual Jazz & Arts Festival in June. The event proceeds were donated to the Lions Clubs of Germantown, Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill. Each is a branch of Lions Clubs International, the world's largest volunteer service organization, with clubs all over the globe. The local branch is dedicated to helping preserve good vision and providing services to the hearing impaired, the blind and the vision-impaired. 
The event was hosted by Out on The Town Entertainment Guide and WDAS-105.3 FM, who broadcasted live onsite with radio personality Doug Henderson at the microphone. It was great to have Joe Frazier, Former Heavyweight Champion of The World, his manager and son participate as judges along with Patty Jackson of WDAS, the Executive Director of the PA Pork Producers Organization and many others. They had the tasty challenge of choosing winners for the beef and pork rib categories out of 10 chef submissions. The community members who stopped by also participated as judges in the “People’s Choice” Award for best ribs. The event was a great success with hundreds of rib-lovers in attendance!
