We are hiring for a Director of Development and Commercial Corridors to build and manage a strategic plan to increase giving to Ogontz Avenue Revitalization Corporation (OARC) and manage Commercial Corridors in the organization’s footprint. This position starts immediately.
The ideal candidate is a strategic fundraiser and has demonstrated experience in managing and implementing a comprehensive fund development program and producing charitable contributions. S/he, in addition to strong strategic thinking/planning skills, is an excellent relationship builder, has proven ease and comfort in asking people to contribute time and money, and has prior management experience
The Development Officer will manage the two primary vehicles for revenue generation for the OARC: Fund Development for OARC and Grants Development/Corridor Engagement. S/he will also serve in place of the President/CEO to the City of Philadelphia and Elected Officials when needed.

The Development Officer is responsible for building and managing a strategic plan to increase charitable donations to OARC. In this capacity, the Development Officer will provide leadership in the areas of fund development in both the government, private and public sector and work with the leadership team to market OARC to funders. This newly created position provides possibilities for yearly bonuses when target fund goals are reached.
The Development Officer will be responsible for building, managing key relationships and serving as an ambassador in the local and national philanthropic community.
Essential Functions:
- Provides recommendations for short and long-term strategic and operational planning, internally and externally, in regards to fundraising activities in support of OARC projects and relationships. Have the ability to “close the deal” on bringing funds to the organization.
- Authors and manages a long-range fund development plan that is designed to generation revenue, inclusive of public, philanthropic and grant activities (federal, state and local).
- Helps leadership identify and address organizational development issues that challenge support health and effectiveness
- Ensures that philanthropy and fund development are carried out in keeping with the organization’s value, mission, vision and plans
- Evaluates the effect and impact of internal and external forces and its fund development strategy, recommends short and long-term fund development plans and programs that support the organization’s values, mission and general objectives
- Assists to develop a balanced funding mix of charitable sources and solicitation programs tailored to the needs of the organization that will enable it to attract, retain and motivate donors and fundraising volunteers
Corridor Management Activities
Position Requirements
In order to improve the quality of life, employment opportunities and entrepreneurial opportunities for low and moderate-income individuals and low and moderate-income neighborhoods, and recognizing the importance of Philadelphia’s business sector in achieving the foregoing, Ogontz Avenue Revitalization Corporation (OARC) with its mission to create and stimulate sustainable economic development through innovative and creative use of its available resources while improving the quality of life for residents in West Oak Lane and other neighborhoods throughout the Northwest section of Philadelphia will assist the City of Philadelphia in the implementation of its Targeted Corridor Revitalization Management Program (TCRMP) which is intended to help revitalize commercial corridors throughout the city. OARC will undertake the following economic development activities designed to enhance economic opportunities and create a sustainable neighborhood as a clean, safe, attractive and welcoming place that will benefit, low- and moderate-income residents of the targeted neighborhood. These activities include community economic development programs designed to assist businesses and the residential community. OARC will target the area(s) of (Ogontz, Stenton and Wadsworth Avenues, Washington Lane).
Manage the following Activities:
-West Oak Lane Business Association (WOLBA)
-Manage Cultural Festivals in the Community
-Plan (2) Business Summits yearly
-Refer to Commerce Department (2) for-profit businesses that provide goods or services to the community (where applicable)
-Promote City of Philadelphia Commerce Department products to businesses
-Work with Elected Officials who represent the community
-Manage company’s social media and website
-Manage Commercial Corridor and establish relationships with local businesses
-Manage all reporting that is due from the City of Philadelphia regarding commercial corridor activities
-Work with President/CEO to achieve all of the noted activities
-Manage Administrative Assistant who will be assigned to team
Requirements needed for position:
- Bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of seven years of full-time paid, professional administrative experience, which has involved working in the areas of fundraising and community activities.
- Comprehensive management skills and experience are required including but not limited to short and long-term planning, evaluation, directing and motivation staff, oral and written communication skills, marketing and financial management, values clarification, organizational behavior and development and governance.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing a comprehensive fund development program and producing charitable contributions. The individual is expected to be a highly competent enabler of volunteer fundraisers and staff.
- Knowledge and experience in the following areas is required: the nature and dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, direct mail and development office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor histories, and fundraising reporting. The individual is also expected to have demonstrated experience and confidence in asking people to contribute time and money. Familiarity with computer systems is necessary.
